Pitshanger sits in the northern stretch of W5, roughly a 10-minute drive from central Ealing, and it's one of those neighbourhoods that mixes Edwardian and 1930s semis with a handful of post-war infill properties. Residents tend to be long-established owner-occupiers alongside younger families who've moved up from flatter rentals. We get called out here for the full range, lockouts on original timber front doors, cylinder upgrades on semis that haven't had new hardware since the nineties, and the occasional panic after a nearby break-in.

Pitshanger Lane is the spine of the area and most jobs come from the streets fanning off it, Brentham Way, Meadvale Road, Lynwood Road. We come up through Argyle Road or cut along the A4020 and head north through Haven Green. The older 1930s stock here tends to run Yale nightlatches paired with a mortice lock, often a five-lever that's never been serviced. A surprising number of households still have the original cylinder from when the house was last sold, which is never a great position to be in.

Most common Pitshanger jobs

  • Lockouts on Edwardian and 1930s front doors, typical response around 20 minutes from our Ealing base
  • Five-lever mortice lock servicing or replacement on the older semi-detached stock
  • Anti-snap cylinder upgrades, particularly after break-in attempts reported on nearby streets
  • Yale nightlatch replacements where the mechanism has worn or keys have been lost
  • Garage side-door locks, common on the larger semis that back onto rear alleyways
  • Lock change after a tenancy ends on the smaller terraced rental properties near the lane

Pitshanger FAQ

On most Pitshanger semis that's exactly the combination you'll have, and honestly both are worth looking at together. If the Yale cylinder is a standard euro profile it's worth swapping to an anti-snap version. If the mortice is a two or three lever it won't meet most home insurance requirements, so upgrading to a five-lever BS3621 lock at the same time makes sense and usually saves a second call-out fee.
